Abstract
Tetraethylenepentamine, a long-chained multifunctional amine, was used to attach nitrogen (N) groups to the surface of a polyethylene terephthalate film. The N content of the modified films was determined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic analysis as well as titration measurements. The physical properties of the modified films were studied using weight-loss measurements, X-ray diffraction, and environmental scanning electron microscopy. Contact-angle measurements were used to establish the changes in wettability of the modified films. The applicability of the surface-tension-component theory and the equation-of-state approach to this system is briefly discussed.
