Abstract
Abstract Aim To study the chemical constituents from the roots of Polyalthia obliqua . Methods The constituents were isolated and purified by silica gel column chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 and preparative TLC. Their structures were identified on the basis of spectral data and physiochemical properties. Results Ten compounds were isolated and their structures were elucidated as 5,7-dihydroxy-8-formyl-6-methylflavanone ( 1 ), demethoxymatteucin ol ( 2 ), 5,7-dihydroxy-6-methyl-8-formylflavone ( 3 ), 5, 7-dihydroxy-6-formyl-8-methylflavone ( 4 ), marcanine A ( 5 ), suberosol ( 6 ), β-sitosteral ( 7 ), vanillin ( 8 ), cinnamic acid ( 9 ) and nicotinic acid ( 10 ). Conclusion Compounds 1 - 4 were reported from the genus for the first time. All the compounds were isolated from this plant for the first time. Compound 6 showed cytotoxicity against human cancer cell lines SPC-A-1 and SGC-7901.
