Abstract
Abstract The crystals of 1:1 complex of 1,2-bis(dimethylaminomethyl)benzene with HCIO 4 were studied using X-ray diffraction and FT-IR spectroscopy. The space group is Cmc 2 1 with a = 11.679(2), b = 13.129(3), c = 9.980(1) and Z = 4. The NHN + intramolecular hydrogen bond is crystallographically symmetric. The N⋯N distance is 2.689(8) A and the N⋯H⋯N angle 123(9)°. The perchlorate anion is highly disordered. The IR spectrum of the crystals shows a continuous absorption indicating very high polarizability of the intramolecular hydrogen bond.
