Abstract
Clinafloxacin (CI-960, PD-127391) is a fluoroquinolone antimicrobial with activity against a wide range of bacterial pathogens, including Gram-positive organisms such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae and Enterococcus spp., Gram-negative organisms such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and strict anaerobes such as Bacteroides fragilis. The drug is available in parenteral and oral formulations and is 90% bioavailable orally. The primary objective of this study was to provide clinafloxacin to patients who might benefit from it. A secondary objectivewas to collect information regarding the tolerability and efficacy of clinafloxacin in the treatment of infections due to multiply resistant pathogens.
