Abstract
The reactivity of the ketone moiety in 6,7-dihydrobenzo[c]-thiophen-4(5H)-ones 1 was used to generate new benzo[c]-thiophene derivatives. The behaviour of the ketones under Vilsmeier-Haack-Arnold conditions was studied. Generally, the reactivity of the ketone moiety is shown to be dependent on the substituents of the thiophene ring.
