Abstract
A new source of radio-opaque compounds for the development of hepatolienography contrast media consists of the class of tetraiodophthalic anhydride derivatives. Hydroxyethyl and hydroxypropyl tetraiodobenzoates were prepared by the decarboxylation of hydroxyethyl and hydroxypropyl tetraiodophthalates. These compounds gave good colloidal dispersions by precipitation in water from acetone. Zirconyl tetraiodophthalate was prepared as a colloidal precipitate, but hydrolysis took place in attempts to neutralize the solvent.
