Abstract
Abstract 3-(3-Carboxypropoxy)benzoic acid (H2cpba) and its four luminescent Zn(II) coordination polymers with different N-heterocyclic ancillary ligands, namely, [Zn(cpba)(bimb)]n 1, [Zn(cpba)(bpy)]n 2, [Zn(cpba)(phen)]n 3 and [Zn2(cpba)(cdppy)2·5H2O]n 4, have been hydrothermally synthesized and fully characterized (bimb = 1,4-bis(imidazol-1-yl-methyl)benzene, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, bpy = 2,2’-bipyridine, and Hcdppy = 4-carboxy-2,6-dipyrazin-2-ylpyridine). X-ray single crystal test results showed that complexes 1 and 4 show one-dimensional ladder-like structures, while complexes 2 and 3 are one-dimensional chain structures. These Zn(II) complexes displayed the differences not only in coordination geometries and ligand binding modes but also the luminescent properties in the solid state. Additionally, the luminescence sensing properties revealed that complex 4 can identify picric acid efficiently through fluorescence quenching.
