Abstract
Benzydamine hydrochloride, an indazole compound, is used for the symptomatic treatment of acute oedematous painful swelling, postoperatively or in traumatic conditions, for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic action. It is administered orally, as a cream of as a mouthwash (1). There is no chemical relationship to other drugs used for inflammatory reactions. Benzydamine preparations were introduced in the early 1960s and are available under many trade names, e.g., Tantum®, Imotryl®, Difflan®, Enzamin®. Cutaneous reactions seem to be rare (2), contact and photocontact dermatitis being described (3). The patient presented here demonstrates the long persistence of benzydamine contact allergy.
