Abstract
1. Magnesium trisilicate is a satisfactory substitute for the alkalies commonly employed to control gastric hyperacidity; in the same dosage it is slightly less prompt in its neutralizing action, but its effect is somewhat more prolonged. 2. Its chief advantages over the alkalies consist in its more prolonged neutralizing action, its absence of effect on the bowels and its non-absorbability, the latter precluding the possibility of a resultant alkalosis. The magnesium trisilicate used in this study was supplied by Eli Lilly & Co. under the trade name of “Trisomin.”
