Abstract
* Presented at the Fourteenth Annual Meeting, American College of Angiology, San Juan, Puerto Rico, December 3-8, 1968. This paper was read on December 7, 1968, by Dr. T. Shepard of Pittsburgh, Penna., for Dr. D. Gehring due to the hospitalization of Dr. Gehring on December 6, 1968. Antazoline hydrochloride is an antihistaminic drug 1-3 which has known antiarrhythmic properties and is available in the United States as Arithmin (Lannett) . Dutta 4, 5 and Burn and Duttas observed antiarrhythmic properties of antazoline in animals. Angelakos7 and Angelakos and Hegnauer8 showed that antazoline was more effective than quinidine in suppressing spontaneous and surgically induced ventricular fibrillation in hypothermic dogs. Burn9 postulated that antazoline might be effective in converting patients with atrial fibrillation to normal sinus rhythm.
