Abstract
Abstract A one-dimensional coordination polymer, namely [Cd(bipy)][HL] n ( 1 ) (H 3 L = 2′-carboxybiphenyl-4-ylmethylphosphonic acid, and bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine) has been synthesized under the hydrothermal condition. The structure of the compound has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, and further characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectrum, thermogravimetric analysis, and UV–vis absorption spectrum. This compound can be used as an excellent dual functional fluorescent sensor for the selective and sensitive detection of the hazardous environmental contaminants nitrobenzene and dichromate (Cr 2 O 7 2− ) anion. Compound 1 represents a rare example of dual functional fluorescent sensor, which can detect nitrobenzene and Cr 2 O 7 2− simultaneously. The sensing mechanism of the compound has been confirmed theoretically and experimentally. Moreover, the optical band gap and temperature variable photoluminescence of the compound have been investigated.
