Abstract
Abstract All the major, and some of the minor, products formed by the interaction of tris(2, 3-, and 4-methoxyphenyl)chromium and 2-butyne have been isolated and identified. In the reaction of tris(2-methoxyphenyl)chromium, a novel reaction (methoxyl extrusion), involving the formation of 1,2,3,4-tetramethylnaphthalene, has been detected. Deuterolytic studies in the same system have proved cis -(2-CH 3 OC 6 H 4 )C(CH 3 )C(CH 3 )Cr is formed during the reaction. The mechanism of the reaction of organochromium compounds with acetylenes is discussed in terms of these new results.
