Abstract
Abstract Hydrothermal reactions of 1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid (H2bdc) and 1,4-di(imidazolidin-1-yl)benzene (1,4-dimb) with different copper salts (cupric nitrate and cupric sulfate) produce two complexes, {[Cu(bdc)(1,4-dimb)]·(DMA)}n (1) and {[Cu4(bdc)3(1,4-dimb)4](O2)(H2O)8(OH)2}n (2) (DMA = dimethylacetamide), and their structures and properties are explored by single crystal X-ray crystallography, elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, thermal gravimetric analysis and fluorescence spectroscopy. Both 1 and 2 are two-dimensional layered structures crystallized from the monoclinic systems, P21/m space group. Fluorescence studies show that both complexes exhibit strong fluorescent emissions and can be used to identify the nitrobenzene derivatives. In particular, the quenching rate of 2 by 2, 4, 6-trinitrotoluene is close to 100% and the quenching constant is as high as 3.40 × 104 M−1.
