Abstract
Abstract Perfluoro-3,4-dimethylhexa-2,4-diene (1) has been synthesised in high yield1 by the defluorination of (2), which is a tetramer obtained by the fluoride ion induced oligomerisation of tetrafluoroethene. Diene (1) is an excellent reactant for forming both heterocycles and cyclopentadienes. Where X can be O (3), S (4), NPh (5) and C(CO2CH2CH3)2 (6). This cyclopentadiene derivative reacts further in the presence of fluoride ion to give the corresponding cyclopentadienyl anion (7). i.e.
