Abstract
Cyclopentanecarboxylic acid (CPCA) acts as a weak gibberellin (GA) antagonist for three diverse responses to GA: d5 dwarf maize growth, Rumex leaf disc senescence, and amylase production in barley half-seeds. The inhibitory effect is completely overcome by simultaneous application of saturating doses of GA3 or GA7 in dwarf maize. CPCA did not affect zeatin-inhibited senescence in the Rumex system or auxin-promoted growth of oat coleoptile sections. The results are compared with other recent work with GA antagonists.
