Abstract
Densities and viscosities for binary mixtures of 4-methylbenzene-1,3-diamine and 2-methylbenzene-1,3-diamine in solvents of water, ethanol, propan-1-ol, and butan-1-ol were measured at T = (293.15, 303.15, 313.15, 323.15, and 333.15) K under atmospheric pressure. The measured densities and viscosities of the studied systems were correlated by the Guimaraes’s equation and the extended Jones-Dole equation, respectively. Apparent molar volumes (Vφ) and the activation energies of viscous flow (Ea) were calculated by experimental results, and Vφ was correlated by a linear equation to obtain the limiting apparent molar volumes at infinite dilutions (Vφ0) and experimental slope (SV). The Vφ, Vφ0, and SV values have been qualitatively used to interpret the solute–solvent and solute–solute interactions via hydrogen bond and hydrophobic hydration interactions between component molecules, which origins from the structural factors.
