Abstract
O,O-diethyl-dithiophosphate (DDTP) was used as a complexing agent in cloud point extraction (CPE) and applied for the selective preconcentration of trace amounts of silver. The analytes in the initial aqueous solution were acidified with acid and Triton X-114 was added as a surfactant. The enriched analyte was determined by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS). The parameters affecting the extraction efficiency, such as solution pH, concentration of DDTP and Triton X-114, equilibration temperature and time, were investigated in detail. Under the optimum conditions, a preconcentration factor of 35 was obtained for the preconcentration of 10 mL of sample solution. The limit of detection was 7.8 ng L -1 and the relative standard deviation (RSD) was 4.9% (n=7, c= 0.2 ng mL -1 ). The proposed method was applied to the determination of silver in water, serum, and human hair samples. The recoveries for the spiked samples were 92.4-98%. To verify the accuracy of the method, silver was determined in certified reference materials, and the determined values are in good agreement with the certified values.
