Abstract
Sulfadimethoxine (SDM) is an antibiotic commonly used in veterinary medicine. A zinc calcium phosphate ceramic was used to deliver sulfadimethoxine. In-vitro release in 0.1 M sodium bicarbonate was studied over a period of twelve days. Fifty percent of the drug was released by the second day while a slower release of the drug was observed during the next 10 days. Incorporation of sodium bicarbonate into the ceramic resulted in the total release of the drug within two days. Development of a delivery system which would continuously deliver the drug for 10 days to a month could help in facilitating animal care.
