Abstract
1,1 Dimethyl 4 Phenylpiperazinium (DMPP) is a selective ganglionic stimulant used as a research tool. DMPP stimulates nicotinic acetylcholine receptors on sympathetic ganglia, chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla, and parasympathetic ganglia. It has little effect on muscle nicotinic acetylcholine receptors on the neuromuscular junction. High doses cause a desensitization block of ganglionic transmission. DMPP is not available for therapeutic use.
