Abstract
This paper reports on one important component of language by means of which scientific RA (Research Articles) writers structure textual interaction with the external community, namely choices of unmarked theme, ie grammatical subject. The functional analysis presented here clearly reveals how the changing dicourse roles of Subjects throughout scientific RAs strongly characterize this genre.
