Abstract
By heating together various proportions of dichlorodimethylsilane and nonamethylcyclotrisilazane, [(CH3)2SiNCH3]3, an equilibrium is formed between the various chloroterminated N‐methyldimethylsilazane chains and the trimeric ring structure. The equilibrium constant for the reaction whereby two end groups in these chains form a middle group plus dichlorodimethylsilane was found to be 2.7×10—3— a value which is a hundred times smaller than that corresponding to random sorting of the bridging methylimino groups with chlorine atoms. The ring—chain constant, which was also calculated, is large as expected for a system in which rings predominate.
