Abstract
Abstract Unsymmetrical 2-(1′,2′,4′-triazol-1′-yl)-6-(pyrazol-1″-yl)pyridine (LH) and 2-(1′,2′,4′-triazol-1′-yl)-6-(4″-methylpyrazol-1″-yl)pyridine (LMe) are prepared by sequential reaction of sodium 1,2,4-triazolate and appropriate pyrazolate with a symmetrical 2,6-disubstituted pyridine core, the second step ambiently facilitated, exploiting 1,2,4-triazole as a leaving group. The tris-heterocycles retain chelation affinity for M(II) ions, forming [M(LH)2][X]2 and [M(LMe)2][X]2 (M = Ru, X = PF6; M = Co, X = BF4), whereas side-on binding occurs exclusively with Ag(I) yielding the adducts [Ag(LH)2][PF6].MeCN and [Ag(LMe)2][PF6].MeCN. The Ag(I) metalloligands are air stable, highly emissive and possess two vacant N3 chelating cavities.
