Abstract
The Domain Name System (DNS) is a distributed database that’s typically used to resolve hostnames into IP addresses. DNS and related systems exist for two main reasons: They make it easier for humans to remember names such as www.apress.com than IP addresses such as 65.215.221.149. They allow servers to change IP addresses and still be reached using the same name.
