Abstract
The results of an investigation into the electret behaviour of a defined chemical substance, 1-tetradecanol, are presented. Measurements were made of the discharge current, the macroscopic dipole moment and the internal potential distribution of the electrets. The results are consistent with the two-charge theory where the internal polarization is caused by space charges resulting from the movement of impurity ions under the influence of the applied field.
