Abstract
Dimethyl disulfide or DMDS is a sulphur solvent that is finding increasing usage in improving production in sour or high sulphur wells. The solvent power of DMDS coupled with its chemical activity has raised some questions in regard to its compatibility with elastomers and plastics commonly used in oilfield seal assemblies. This study will review the results obtained in both autoclave testing and seal life testing. Autoclave tests are discussed.
