Abstract
Abstract The structural stability and equation of state (EoS) of sodium formate (NaHCOO) up to ∼6 GPa have been investigated using in-situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction technique, at room temperature. The results indicate that sodium formate remained the monoclinic structure at high pressures and exhibited anisotropic compressibility, the b- and c-axes are more compressible than a-axis. The experimental pressure-volume data are fitted well with the third-order Birch-Murnaghan EoS, yielding a bulk modulus of B 0 = 26.0(1) GPa with its first pressure derivative B 0 ' = 4.5(7). The present results can provide some insight for better understanding of the structural stability of alkali and alkaline earth metal formates under high pressure.
