Abstract
We investigated the effects of triacetin (shortchaintriglyceride) on gastric motility in conscious dogs. The rate of gastric emptying was monitored by evans blue appearance in the duodenum. Gastric contraction was measured by a strain gauge transducer (SGT) mounted on the gastric antrum. Administration of triacetin to the stomach through the infusion tube placed in the gastric lumen resulted in a reduction of the rate of gastric emptying, in comparison with control which was administered water alone, and significant reduction appeared in 40-60 min after the administration. The gastric motility measured by SGT indicated that the interdigestive migrating contraction of the stomach was also reduced by treatment with triacetin, in comparison with that with water alone. The results indicat ed that triacetin delays gastric emptying and inhibits gastric contractile activity.
