Abstract
Abstract 1. 1. The effects of a high dose of Benserazide (800 mg/kg, i.p.) on the concentrations of 5-hydroxytryptamine, noradrenaline and dopamine in various regions of the rat brain were studied. 2. 2. In contrast to other monoamine synthesis inhibitors (i.e. p -chlorophenylalanine and α-methyl p -tyrosine), this dose of Benserazide did not cause depletion of 5-HT, NA or DA, 1 or 2 hr after administration. 3. 3. It was concluded that the use of a high dose of Benserazide alone in the study of CNS monoaminergic function is of doubtful validity.
