Abstract
The capacity of certain drugs to protect red blood cells from the deforming action exerted by acetrizoate was investigated. Among drugs known to stabilize cell membranes, only chlorpromazine and dibucaine exhibited an appreciable protective action. Treatment with colchicinc— a substance which damages the microtubules— provided inadequate protection against the action of acetrizoate; this would rule out microtubular involvement in red blood cell deformation phenomena.
