Abstract
SUMMARY The coccidiostatic effect of robenidine in pelleted feed at concentrations of 33,66 and 99 parts/106 was tested in rabbits naturally infected with Eimeria intestinalis, E. magna, E. media and E. perforans and in rabbits experimentally infected with 50 000 oocysts of E. intestinalis, E. magna, E. perforans and E. stiedai. Administration of 33 parts/106 robenidine proved to be effective in controlling oocyst output in naturally infected rabbits. Higher doses were required to combat the experimental infection. Oocysts passed during therapy had normal viability. Compared with the infected unmedicated controls, the weight gains of the infected medicated groups were significantly (0.01 ≥ P > 0.001) improved by 48% (33 parts/106), 58% (66 parts/106) and 54% (99 parts/106) after four weeks robenidine medication. The feed conversion was also significantly (0.05 ≥ P > 0.01) improved by 25% (66 parts/106) and 21% (99 parts/106).
