Abstract
Abstract“One-pot” electrocatalytic transformation of aldehydes, malononitrile, and 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-2H-pyran-2-one in an undivided cell results in the formation of 4-aryl-2-amino-7-methyl-5-oxo-4H,5H-pyrano[4,3-b]pyran-3-carbonitriles in 86–93 % substance yields and 860–930 % current efficiency via a complex multicomponent process. This novel electrocatalytic chain process opens an effective and convenient way to cyano-functionalized pyrano[4,3-b]pyran systems which are promising compounds for biomedical applications. This efficient electrocatalytic approach to the pyrano[4,3-b]pyran scaffold represents a novel synthetic concept for a multicomponent reaction (MCR) strategy and allows to combine the synthetic virtues of conventional MCR with ecological benefits and convenience of a facile electrocatalytic procedure.
