Abstract
We recently isolated a stimulant for both male and female American cockroach (Periplaneta americana L.) from a plant, Solidago altissima L. (Compositae)1). The final identification of the stimulant was left between either T-cadinol (I) or a-cadinol (II). By the compari son of the infrared absorptions of the stimulant with those of I and II, the stimulant was identified as Tcadinol (I) (Table I). Quite recently Lundgren et al.5) tentatively reported a-cadinol as a constituent of a Lepidoptera wing scent complex, important to courtship behavior. Thus, cadinol may be significant for insects.
