Abstract
Abstract 1,4-Diaminobutane-N,N′-diacetic acid (H2dbda) was synthesized and purified. This ligand forms one seven-membered and two five-membered chelate rings in its metal complexes. The equilibria between this acid and the cations H+, Cu2+ and Ni2+, at I=1 (KNO3) and 25°C, were investigated. The stability constants of the 1:1 metal complexes show a negative chelate effect, in agreement with the formation of such a large chelate ring. As often found with N,O-ligands, the coordination number of the metal ion reaches the value of four with copper and of six with nickel. These results are in agreement with the expectations from the literature data for similar ligands.
