Abstract
A study of the effect of acetamide as an accelerator of the reaction between free bilirubin and diazotized sulfanilic acid (DSA) has led to its use in a method for serum bilirubin which is simple, sensitive, linear over a wide range, and which requires neither excessive dilution nor protein precipitation. The conditions necessary for greatest sensitivity and for linearity have been established with regard to the pH of coupling and photometry, the concentration of DSA, the minimizing of turbidities, and the effect of protein.
