Abstract
1. Thirty-two phenanthrene derivatives have been assayed for estrogenic activity and of these 9-ethylphenanthrene, 1-keto-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrophenanthrene and 2-phenanthreneacetic acid gave a positive response when injected into mice at a dosage of 25 mgm. 2. The acid, C18H22O5, and other similar oxidation products of theelol are considerably less active than theelin but much more potent than the synthetic phenanthrene derivatives studied in this investigation.
