Abstract
THE AKTICONVULSANT albutoin ( Co-ord@) , a thiohydantoin, has been studied by Millichap and Ortiz,I Davis and Schwade, and others.2-3 Their reports indicate that the drug has approximately the same therapeutic efficacy on an equivalent dose basis as diphenylhydantoin but almost none of the deleterious side effects. Millichap and Ortiz reported somnolence as the only side effect in a single patient in their series of 35 patients on albutoin, while 28% toxic effects were evident in the diphenylhydantoin control group. This report describes 23 patients placed on albutoin at the Seizure Clinic, University of Washington Hospital, during the years 196769. Nine patients remained on the experimental drug at the completion of the study. The remaining 14 had been dropped from the study for a variety of reasons-increase in seizure frequency and toxic side effects predominating.
