Abstract
Abstract The thermal decomposition of γ-irradiated strontium nitrate was studied by thermogravimetry (non-isothermal conditions, constant heating rate of 4° min −1 ). The reaction order, activation energy, frequency factor and entropy of activation were computed by means of the Coats—Redfern, Freeman—Carroll and Horowitz—Metzger methods. The values of E, Z and Δ S obtained by the three methods agree well. The mechanism for the decomposition follows the Mampel model equation, viz., −ln (1-α) for g(α) and the rate-controlling process is random nucleation with the formation of a nucleus on every particle.
