Abstract
Clortermine hydrochloride, fenfluramine hydrochloride, and mazindol are comparable to other anorexiants in suppressing the appetite. They should only be used as short-term adjuncts in a program that also includes caloric restriction, appropriate exercise, and psychologic support. Mazindol is the only anorexiant that is not a phenethylamine, and fenfluramine has the unusual property of producing both anorexia and central nervous system depression. (JAMA230:270-272, 1974)
