Abstract
Abstract A variety of electron analytical techniques have been used to show that, when sodium aluminum hydride crystals are examined inside an electron microscope, beam-induced decomposition results. Hydrogen is evolved and phase separation of sodium and aluminum occurs with the subsequent growth of small (≈10 μm) single crystals of metallic sodium.
