Abstract
Abstract : A single-cylinder research engine (CLR) was operated on diesel fuel containing a halon compound, bromochoromethane, added to the fuel at 5 percent by volume as a fire safe fuel additive. Basic diesel power comparisons were made using diesel fuel and diesel fuel plus additive. A series of experiments were then conducted to investigate injection system variables, including injector camshaft profile, barrel and plunger diameter, injection nozzle configuration, and nozzle hole size, in an effort to recover power losses noted when using the diesel fuel plus additive blend.
