Abstract
The synthesized sex pheromone of the pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders), gossyplure, ( Z,Z -and Z,E -7,11-hexadecadien-1-ol acetate), was studied in relation to persistence in soil and water, soil leaching, and photodegradation. Half life of the complex in soil at 32°C was 1 day; in water it was 7 days. The major degradation product was identified as a mixture of ( Z,Z ) and ( Z,E )-7,11-hexadecadienol. No soil leaching was detected, and little, if any, photodegradation occurred.
