Abstract
Abstract Electron spin resonance of Fe3+ produced by radiation damage of ferrous ammonium sulfate hexahydrate crystals indicates the presence of a ground-state Kramers' doublet having an effective gav value of approximately 30 7 with g11 = 3.853, g22 = 4.827, and g33 = 4.3277. A careful analysis of the spectrum indicates that the D term is small and that the relative magnitudes of the fourth-order cubic term a and the fourth-order axial term F determine the nature of the ground state. The presence of the other two Kramers' doublets with effectiveg factors g |; = 2 , gτ = 6 and g | = 2 7 , g τ = 30 7 have also been noted and applicability of the spin Hamiltonian proposed by R. W. Kedzie, D. H. Lyons, and M. Kestigian has been confirmed.
