Abstract
The reaction of benzyltriphenylphosphonium ion (PhCH2P+Ph3) with eaq− has been studied. The benzyl radical and triphenylphospine are formed by the reaction: PhCH2P+Ph3+eaq−→PhCH2·+Ph3P, with the rate constant (2.7±0.3)×1010 M−1 s−1. The benzyl radical decays in a bimolecular reaction with 2k=(2.7±0.4)×109 M−1 s−1.
