Abstract
The demand for mouth-dissolving tablets has been growing, during the last decade, especially for geriatric and paediatric patients who have swallowing difficulties. Pheniramine maleate, a H 1 -receptor antagonist, is an effective anti-histaminic agent clinically used for the treatment of acute allergic attacks, urticaria, rhinitis, all itching skin conditions, and nausea, vomiting & vertigo associated with motion sickness. In the present work, an attempt has been made to prepare an orodispersible tablet of Pheniramine maleate using various superdisintegrants like Ac-Di-Sol, Crospovidone and L-HPC. Six formulations were prepared by direct compression method and evaluated for post-compression parameters. Formulation F2 showed the lowest disintegration time and wetting time. Invitro dissolution studies revealed that formulation F2 showed 100 per cent drug release at the end of 6 minutes. The stability studies for formulation F2 showed no significant change in invitro disintegration time, wetting time, drug content and invitro drug release when stored at 40°C/75% relative humidity (RH) for a period of 30 days.
