Abstract
1. 1-Methyl-5-ethynyl- and 1-methyl-3-ethynylpyrazole were prepared by methylation of 3(5)-ethynylpyrazole and characterized. 2. The synthesis of 1-methyl-5-butadiynyl- and 1-methyl-3-butadiynylpyrazole has been achieved from their corresponding monoacetylenic derivatives, by condensation with 1-bromo-3-methylbutyne-l-ol-3, and splitting of the diacetylenic alcohols so obtained in presence of caustic potash. 3. Contrary to current opinion, mixtures of both the possible isomers, rather than individual compounds, are obtained in the N-hydroxymethylation of unsymmetrically substituted pyrazoles.
