Abstract
1,2-Diamino-3-phenylguanidine, synthesised by successive S-methylation and hydrazinolysis of 4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazide, reacts with an excess of diphenylcarbodi-imide yielding 3,5-dianilino-4-phenyl-1,2,4-triazole. Its interaction with aryl isothiocyanates produces 3-hydrazino-5-mercapto- and (mainly) 3-arylamino-5-mercapto-4-aryl-1,2,4-triazoles. Action of the appropriate quantities of phenyl isocyanate yields non-cyclic stable mono- or di-addition compounds. The results are correlated with the comparable behaviour of the parent, NN′-diaminoguanidine.
