Abstract
The development of greener approaches for the conversion of inedible biomass-based 2-furaldehyde for the production of renewable building block chemicals was achieved. Succinic acid, a four-carbon-based dicarboxylic acid, is among the new bio-derived building block and is used extensively in cosmetics, food, pharmaceuticals, polymers, and other chemical industry. Herein, we demonstrate selective formation of succinic acid from 2-furaldehyde using Amberlyst-15, a reusable solid acid catalyst, in the presence of hydrogen peroxide at 353 K in water solvent.
