Abstract
High-resolution solid state /sup 13/C NMR spectroscopy has been used to study the anhydrous (monomeric), hydrated, and trimeric bis(2,4-pentanedionato)zinc. The combined techniques of cross-polarization and magic-angle spinning NMR were used with x-ray powder diffraction for the study. The results were interpreted to indicate a correlation between the geometry of the carbonyl groups and the delocalization of the pi electrons in the acetylacetonate ligands. A novel metastable phase was identified and its phase behavior was investigated. 22 references, 3 figures, 1 table.
