Abstract
1. Two commercial samples of trisilicate of Magnesium were analyzed for antacid action. They varied greatly in acid neutralizing ability. The findings in sample B verified the experiments of Mutch. 2. It was found for sample B that, after 20 minutes, 10% of acid present was adsorbed and 45% was neutralized. If percentage was figured from equivalent acid (Mann), the figure for acid adsorbed would be 17.5% and for ac:’d neutralized 61%. 3. Trisilicate of Magnesium was used for 150 patients with peptic ulcer. In a series of 90 cases studied carefully 86 cases could anticipate benefit from medical management. Of these 92% were markedly benefited and 84% kept symptom free for the duration of the study. 4. Trisilieate of Magnesium has no effect on colonic motility in most cases. It produced no discernible toxic effects. It does not affect the acid-base balance of the blood serum. 5. Trisilicate of Magnesium has a use in the treatment of peptic ulcer and will probably replace many antacids now employed.
