Abstract
Abstract Hydrogen cyanide is a chemical warfare agent and has been used for fumigation, power, mining, chemical synthesis, and the production of synthetic fibers, plastics, dyes, pesticides, and weapons. Breathing small amounts of hydrogen cyanide can cause headaches, dizziness, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Large amounts of HCN may cause panting, irregular heartbeat, seizures, fainting, and even rapid death can occur. In this chapter, we have talked about its physicochemical properties, pollution, treatment, contamination, environmental effects, and toxicity. In addition to this, this chapter discusses risk assessment that comprises of identification of the hazard, population at risk, its sources of contamination, and then techniques to avoid any accident leading to loss of lives or any destruction to the ecosystem.
